Built as a passenger- cruise vessel under yard No 157 by the Ørskov Staalskibsværft, Frederikshavn, Denmark for Arctic Umiaq Line A/S, at Nuuk, Greenland.
09 October 1991 laid down.
11 September 1991 launched under the name SARPIK ITTUK, two sisters the SAQQIT ITTUK and SARFAQ ITTUK.
Tonnage 1.127 grt, 817 net, 163 dwt, dim. 49.65 x 11.10 x 3.40m. (draught)
Powered by a 6-cyl. MAN-B&W/Alpha diesel engine, 2.000hp., speed 13.4 knots.
Accommodation for 150 passengers.
07 January 1992 completed.

She was built for coastal navigation in the Western waters of Greenland from South to North Greenland a distance of 932 miles; the coastal voyage takes around 9 days.
Apart from ordinary passenger traffic, she was to a large extend adapted to tourist cruises along the west coast of Greenland
February 2000 lengthened by the Remontowa Shiprepair yard, Gdansk, Poland.
Lengthened with 23 meter, rebuilding of the accommodation and public areas, new restaurant, cafeteria, new cabins for passengers and crew, installation of an aft thruster.
Tonnage 2.118 grt, 1.498 net, 200 dwt., length 72.8 meter.
Passenger accommodation for 246 passengers, crew 18 – 22.
The accommodation facilities include 104 beds in cabins with own shower and toilet, 76 beds in four-persons cabins without shower and toilet, and 62 beds in open areas inside the ship (couchette class). Passengers in four-person cabins or couchette-class have access to shower cabins.
She makes according the Arctic Umiaq website also cruises to Spitsbergen, Antarctic cruises and Norway coastal cruises.

The Homerule Government of Greenland has announced that it has chosen not to continue a new service agreement with Arctic Umiaq Line A/S by 01 January 2006.
As a result, it will not be possible to book or buy tickets at Arctic Umiaq Line with departure after 31 December 2005.

17 February 2009 underway for a 15 day cruise from Ushuaia, Argentine to the Antarctic under command of Captain Per Gravensen with on board 106 passengers and crew grounded in a position 68 08S 67 06W in the Marguerite Bay west of Debenham Island about 1 mile from the Argentinean polar research station San Martin. She was not holed.
The Spanish research vessel HESPERIDES arrived a few hours later in Marguerite Bay, divers on board this vessel inspected the hull did not found visible damage.
18 February the passengers on board the OCEAN NOVA have been transferred to the CLIPPER ADVENTURER belonging to the same company as the OCEAN NOVA.
Later that day during high tide the OCEAN NOVA was refloated by her own power.

22 February 2009 the OCEAN NOVA arrived back in the port of Ushuaia, after an underwater survey it was found that four areas of the underwater-hull were indented but not holed.
She underwent repairs in Ushuaia and her next cruise was cancelled.
