SAINT PIERRE 1791

Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Jul 28, 2013 8:58 pm

François-René, vicomte de Chateaubriand (4 September 1768 – 4 July 1848) was a French writer, politician, diplomat and historian. He is depict on the stamp.
He traveled on board the brigantine SAINT PIERRE as passenger to North America. .And most probably she is shown on the stamp, when there was a drawing of painting of the SAINT PIERRE? Not much I knew of the SAINT PIERRE. The web-site gives her as a brigantine, but the stamp shows what look likes a barque rigged vessel.
Where built and when unknown. Tonnage 160 tons.
She sailed on 08 April 1791 from St Malo under command of Captain Pintedevin and 2 officers and 13 sailors, with on board cargo and 17 passengers across the North Atlantic after a short stop in the Azores to St Pierre et Miquelon where she arrived on 23 May 1791, and the passengers disembarked.
Thereafter not any info more on the ship.

St Pierre et Miquelon 6f sg451, scott?
