SAILING LIGHTER

The Nevis sailing lighter which are extinct now, were used around St Kitts and Nevis carry cargo and passengers.
Sloop rigged cargo vessel. Straight raked stem and sternpost; deep hull, flat sheer. Mainsail has a short gaff and a very long boom; staysail.
Length ca 15 metre, beam 6 metre.
The coat of Arms of St Kitts and Nevis depict in the centre also a sailing lighter.
The last extant Nevisian sailing lighter is at the Horatio Nelson Museum in Charlestown, Nevis.
