La Boussole (La Perouse)

The Boussole of La Perouse, the third ship of the name since 1691. She was originally a store ship name Portefaix, built in 1783, and converted into a frigate in 1785. She was lost with the Astrolabe of La Perouse in 1788 at Vanikoro Island.

De Wallis & Futuna stamp issued in 1988 70Fr. sg 530 was designed after a drawing by Josep-François Duché de Vancy and shows us La BOUSSOLE and L’ASTROLABE at anchor at Port des Francaes in Lituya Bay, Alaska in July 1786. La BOUSSOLE is on the right and the L’ASTROLABE on the left.
