The basilica (Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute) is a Venetian cathedral on the Grand Canal, located in front of the Doge’s Palace. The basilica was built in honor of abolition of plague, which killed more than a third part of local population. Basilica held annual mass to signify the abolition; and also a celebration Festa della Salute was organized – for that event a ponton bridge would be installed from the Doge’s Palace to the church. The artist often depicts this temple in his paintings.
