Post by aukepalmhof » Mon Jul 01, 2024 8:16 pm

This stamp was issued by Lithuania for the Tall Ship Race, starting from Klaipeda. The stamp shows us four sailing cabin yachts of which I have not any information or details.

riday, June 14 2024 Lithuanian Post issues a postage stamp "Lithuanian Great Sailboat Regatta" designed by Natalija Vaišnorienė. The face value of the postage stamp is EUR 1.55, the circulation is 40 thousand. pcs Stamping of the first day's date will take place at the Klaipėda post office at the address H. Manto str. 7.

This year, for the first time in history, Klaipėda will be the starting port of the tall ships race "The Tall Ships Races". To the port city of Lithuania on June 27-30. the bigtall ships will sail, and the tallships that started from Klaipėda on June 30 will race to Helsinki.

On July 7, they will already raise their sails and will sail to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, in the non-race stage. July 14 the second stage of the race will start along the Finnish coast to the Aura River in Turku. July 21 the non-racing stage will start to Mariehamn, the administrative center of the Åland archipelago, where sailing traditions have been cherished for a long time.

The final leg of the race, starting on July 27, will see the sailboats sail 400 nautical miles south across the Baltic Sea to the port city of Szczecin in Poland.

Eglė Šulskė, director of the Klaipėda Festival, which organizes the international event, is happy that the city, full of maritime culture and decorated with sails, will spread the news about the maritime event in Lithuania in alternative forms: "The Lithuanian postage stamp issued on this occasion is a very important assessment in the context of nurturing maritime culture. I am happy that the topic of sailing is relevant not only for people living by the sea, but also for state institutions and specialists working in them. We are a maritime country, so we believe that by organizing such events, we are on the right path and we are infecting the inhabitants of Lithuania with the spirit of the sea."

Every year, Lithuanian Post issues around 20-25 postage stamps. The themes depicted on Lithuanian postage stamps are approved annually by the Postage Stamp Publishing Commission. The latter selects objects, commemorations of historical events or phenomena important to the entire country.

The latest postage stamp publishing and stamping plans are published on the Lithuanian Post website: https://www.post.lt/pasto-zenklu-leidyb ... imi-planai .
