FISHERMEN AND HUNTERS DAY IN GREENLAND.

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu Oct 31, 2024 8:35 pm

Greenland issued 2 stamps for fishing and hunting, only one shows us a small dinghy. Greenland's inshore fishing are mostly from dingies, methods include line and hook, gill-net, trap catch, and pound nets. These methods are designed to have a low impact on the environment and to use little fuel.

Fishermen and Hunters’ Day in Greenland
In Greenland the annual fishermen and hunters’ day is celebrated on the 15th November. The fishing and hunting association KNAPK was founded in 1953 and, since then, the observance day has become a true celebration of sustainable fishing and hunting that includes communal worship, coffee and cake, competitions, folk festivities and award ceremonies. The Greenlandic Centre in Copenhagen has previously collaborated with the National Museum and the Zoological Museum, both located in Copenhagen, on a joint promotion of the annual Fishermen and Hunters’ Day through a wide range of events. Previously, a researcher of micro-organisms in traditional Greenlandic food at the University of Greenland, Ilisimatusarfik, has also held lectures. The Four Greenlandic Centres in Denmark also annually mark this celebration of the fishing and hunting industry as well as its cultural and economic significance for Greenland.
