FLOOD RELIEF 1928 IN LIECHTENSTEIN

Post by aukepalmhof » Mon Dec 16, 2024 8:50 pm

In 1928, Liechtenstein issued a set of four stamps, flood-relief stamps to help those affected by the 1927 Rhine flooding: Two stamps shown small boats of which I have not any information.
The stamps
The lowest denomination stamp in the set depicted the breached Rhine embankment and the ruined railway bridge at Schaan.
The flooding
The 1927 flooding was devastating for Liechtenstein, with only the tallest parts of Ruggell, a low-lying town in northern Liechtenstein, remaining partly visible.
The assistance
Neighboring Austria sent soldiers to help with rescue efforts. Swiss military pontoniers also brought their skills to help.
