TALE OF THE FERRYMAN

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu Dec 19, 2024 3:59 am

Three special stamps are dedicated to the Liechtenstein Tibet collection. The designs were made after scroll paintings and are “Story of the ferryman, dance mask, story of the fish” come from the collection of Tibet researcher Heinrich Harrer, which was partly acquired by the country.

Only one has a maritime design, the story of the ferryman, a scene from the previous life of the historical Buddha.

The ferryman

The stamp with the value of 60 Rappen shows the history of the ferryman. This story, which Buddha
told his students, took place countless ages ago when he was on the path to enlightenment.

Born as the son of a king, the Buddha practices the perfection of giving.
On a trip in the royal carriage He noticed that the people did many unwholesome things to eliminate poverty. They stole, killed and got each other involved in quarrels;
When asked about the purpose, it was always about to acquire material wealth.
This saddened Him greatly, and he decided to have his people given gifts from the royal treasuries to let them be freed from negativity things. He gave away one third of his treasures.
Then His Father said to him that the empire will collapse if the king were penniless. So he wanted to become rich himself to pass it on to the people
He asked how one can become very rich.
