Built as a passenger-cargo vessel under yard No 79 by the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij, Rotterdam for the Zuid-Afrikaanse Stoomvaart Maatschappij, Rotterdam.
08 February 1922 launched under the name KLIPFONTEIN, named after the town Klipfontein in South Africa.
Tonnage 4.726 gross, 3.088 net, dim. 122.5 x 17.8m.
Powered by tow steam turbines, manufactured by Metropolitan Vickers, Manchester, U.K., 3.000 shp., geared to one shaft, speed 12.5 knots.
Bunker capacity of 2.130 tons of coal, daily consumption by her three boilers 47 ton.
Passenger accommodation for 38 passengers maximal.
Three decks, four holds, hold no two did have two hatches.
Fitted out with 10 derricks, one was a heavy lift derrick of 40 tons.

The company was better known as the Holland Zuid Afrika Line (Holland South Africa Line) of after the logo in the house flag as Springbok Line.
KLIPFONTEIN was used in the liner service between the Netherlands and South Africa.
After 1924 the company worked closely together with the Verenigde Nederlandsche Scheepvaart Maatschappij, (VNS) The Hague, Netherlands, which had services between the Netherlands and the East Coast of Africa.
1932 During the depression the Holland South Africa Line got in liquidation, and the ships of that company were taken over by the VNS.

1935 Sold to Giuseppe & Salvatore Rizzuto, Naples, Italy and renamed GLORIASTAR.
1936 Renamed by company in GLORIASTELLA.

17 September 1940 during an Allied air-raid launched by planes from the aircraft carrier HMS ILUSTRIOUS on Benghazi, Libya was she torpedoed in this port and sank.
1949 Refloated and towed to La Spezia, Italy.
1952 Scrapped there.
