Built as a research icebreaker under yard No 02783 by Admiralteiyskiy Zavod yard in Leningrad, Soviet Union.
27 December 1977 keel laid down.
30 August 1979 launched as the OTTO SCHMIDT some sources used the name OTTO SHMIDT. She is named after the famous Russian scientist, mathematician, astrometry, geophysicist and hero of the USSR Otto Schmidt (1891-1956); he is also depict on the stamp.
Tonnage 2.828 grt, 825 net, 1.095 dwt., dim. 73.0 x 18.6m.
Diesel electric powered by two diesel engines, 5.400hp, speed 15 knots.
On board were 14 laboratories.
30 August 1979 completed.

On her career I have not any information.

1997 Sold by the Murmansk Territorial Administration for Hydrometeorology, Russia to Shiv Engineering Co. India.
28 September 1996 she arrived at Alang for demolition.
12 October 1996 scrapping commenced.
