Water Buses are a popular form of transport in the U.S.S.R. and other Communist countries, judging by the number of this type of craft appearing on stamps of these nations. One of the earliest post-war types is that depicted on the 1947 Russian stamp, which shows the Moskovitch passing under the Kremlin bridge at Moscow. Known as Type PA I, the Moskovitch has a single 4-stroke cycle oil engine of 150 h.p., which drives a single screw, giving the craft a speed of 19 knots.
This class of water-bus carries 145 passengers and is used mainly in operating excursions or river outings and in urban and suburban areas. Passengers are in two classes, a common practice, rather surprisingly, in a country where ideologically all men are equals. Capacity is 72 first-class and 75 second-class.
