Mrs. J. Dalenoord, of The Hague, designed the 10 + 8c. stamp, which carries a representation of the trawl-lugger Curacao (registry YM99), owned by the N.V. Visserijmaatschappij Medan-Batavia of Ymulden. This trawler, built by N.Y. Scheepsbouwwerf "De Dageraad" at Woubrugge, near Govida, was launched on May 12, 1956, and handed over to her owners on July 1 of that year. Her gross tonnage is 262.53 and she is driven by a reversible "Industry" oil engine of 600 s.h.p. The vessel's trawl winch is coupled to an electric motor, which is in turn harnessed to a steam generator powered from a Deutz diesel of 155 h.p. An auxiliary Lister oil engine of 30 h.p. is used for the compressor, pumps and generators. Central heating for the trawler is provided by oil fuel, and she is fitted with all the latest navigational aids. It is interesting to know that another trawler of these owners, from the same builders as the Curacao, appears on the 15f. stamps of St. Pierre and Miquelon. Now renamed Galantry, she was originally the Job Gouda, for her first owners the Medan-Batavia company. The Curacao has a normal crew of 13, including the skipper. Her speed is 10 knots and the fish hold measures 280 cu. metres, having a capacity of 125 tons for fish and 25 tons for ice. This will give her room for a catch of about 1,000,000 herrings.
