
CARIBOU (Br). Built by New Waterways Shipbuilding Company in 1925, at Schiedam, Holland, for Newfoundland Government Rail & Steamship Department. Gross tonnage 2,222, net 1362; length 266 ft, beam 41.3 ft. Triple expansion engines. Strengthened for ice. Torpedoed and sunk by German submarine on the night of October 14th, 1942, near Port Aux Basques, with the loss of 137 lives. She sank in a few minutes. (Newfoundland, 1928, 2c, SG180).
