Rakoczi

On the 2 ft. stamp is shown the Rakoczi, a sister ship of the Hunyadi (depicted on the 1 ft. stamp of the set of seven showing various ships to commemorate the 25th session of the Danube Commission last June). A third sister ship is the Tancsics, and the trio are the most modern and attractive ships of the Mahart (Hungarian Shipping Co. Ltd.) fleet on the Danube.
Details of the vessel are: length overall, 57.6 metres (waterline 55 metres), beam 11.45 metres, moulded beam 9 metres and draft 1.4 metres. Each is powered by two oil engines of 400 h.p. and can carry 600 passengers. The three sister ships were built at the Mahart repair dock, Budapest.The Rakoczi is named after Francis Rakoczi (1676-1735), one of Hungary's great patriots, who sacrificed all his personal wealth for his country. The Hunyadi honours John Hunyadi (1407-1456) who devoted his life to fighting the Turks, driving them out of the country. He became the first governor of the liberated country.

Built 1964.
She is a comfortable river passenger ship and was the second unit of the three ships.
When built did have an open upper deck and two restaurants on the main deck.
During the 70’s she was refitted and modernized while the upper deck became closed with a large restaurant and a small size open terrace.
During 2006 she was again refitted and modernized.
Passenger accommodation for 400 passengers.
2010 In service and can be chartered throughout the whole year for big meetings, receptions and conferences.
