Nationalist China commemorated the 90th anniversary of the China Merchants Steam Navigation Co., Ltd. by the issue of two stamps showing vessels of the company. The 80 cents stamp shows a bow-on aerial view of a vessel which, I am told, is the Hai Kwang, but I am a bit dubious about this identification. The Hai Kwang, a tanker of 18,161 gross tons on dimensions of 632 ft. 6 in. x 83 ft. 8 in. x 33 ft.4 in. was built in 1956 at the Kawasaki Dockyard, Japan, but the stamp designer has shown a ship having two tall masts and cargo derricks, unusual features for a tanker.
