Federal Palm
The Federal Palm of the West Indies Shipping Corporation appears on the 1c stamp, the second ship of the company to be philatelically represented, her sister-ship, the Federal Maple, having been depicted on a 75c stamp of Antigua issued in 1970. Both ships were built in August 1961, the Federal Palm, at Port Weller Dry Docks Ltd., St Catharines, Ontario; her sister-ship at Vickers, Montreal. Port of registry is Port of Spain, and gross tonnage 3,196; net 1,594; deadweight 900 tons. Length 298ft, breadth 51 ft. 8in., draft 15ft 6in. depth 26ft.7in. A motorship, with 50 berths for passengers and 200 deck passengers. A Fairbanks-Morse oil engine give the vessel a speed of 15 knots. Grenada SG834, Trinidad and T SG678.
