ST LEONARDS paddle steamer 1881

The ferry depict on this painting made by Sir Arthur Streeton (1867-1943) is most probably the ST LEONARDS. The other two used in the service were the VICTORIA and CAMMERAY

Built in 1881 as a wooden paddle steamer by W.Dunn at Berry’s Bay for North Shore S.F. Co.
Launched as the ST LEONARDS.
Tonnage 110 ton. Dim. 110 x 18.6 x 6.5ft.
She was a double-ended ferry

She was used together with the VICTORIA and CAMMERAY as a ferry in the short voyage from Circular Bay, Sydney to the North Shore.
1900 Sold to the Sydney Ferries Ltd., but all soon replaced by screw ferries.
1902 Converted to a pontoon and used as a wharf pontoon at Gladesville.
1942 Broken up.
