GOEDE HOOP and REIGER

On this stamp of South Africa of 2d you can find the VOC fleet of three ships in which Jan van Riebeeck was a passenger when he arrived at the Cape of Good Hope 06 April 1652, the vessel Riebeeck arrived on, was the DROMEDARIS (Dromedary) her details you can find in the index.
The other two vessels were the GOEDE HOOP (Good Hope) and REIGER (Heron).

The GOEDE HOOP was a yacht built in Amsterdam probably in 1651 for the VOC. She sailed together with the other two vessels on 24 December 1651 from the road of Texel, Netherlands.
She was under command of Skipper Simon Turver.
06 April 1652 arrived at the Cape, and stayed there till 23 January 1653.
Arrived at Batavia with on board 15 people, so it have been a very small vessel.
After arrival at Batavia, Dutch East Indies, she stayed there, mostly the yachts of the VOC were built for the service of the VOC between the islands in the archipelago, and very seldom returned to Holland.
The GOEDE HOOP was lost near Amboina (Nova Tello) on 13 July 1654.

The REIGER was a 560 ton flute, owned by the Chamber of the VOC of Amsterdam.
Most probably she was built in 1647/48.

She sailed from Texel on 26 April 1648 and arrived at Batavia on the 1 November 1648, she was sailing via San Tiago, during the voyage 4 people died and on arrival at Batavia she had 89 people on board.

22 January 1650 she sailed from Batavia, arriving the same year at Amsterdam, with a cargo on board invoiced 203,443 Dutch guilder for the Chamber of Amsterdam of the VOC.

Under skipper Jan Hoogzaad she sailed from Texel on 24 December 1651, arrived with the two other vessels in the Cape on 06 April 1652, stayed there until 17 May 1652.
28 People disembarked at the Cape. She arrived at Batavia with on board 58 people on 22 July 1652, four people died during the voyage.

The REIGER was blown up by its own powder, off Pulicat on 19 October 1654.
