Trafalgar Swords

Post by john sefton » Sun May 23, 2010 9:42 pm

A reproduction of the remarkable detail to be found on the scabbard of the Trafalgar swords. Those were produced at the behest of Lloyd's which founded a Patriotic Fund during the Napoleonic Wars to provide money for the widows and orphans of seamen lost during that conflict. Eventua¬lly swords worth £30, £50 or £100 were awarded from the Fund to naval captains and admirals who had distinguished themselves in naval campaigns. The Trafalgar swords
were a special version of the £100 model, with pictures from the naval battle engraved on the scabbard.
