Le COLOMBIER

The stamp shows us a Fairmile Motor Launch used by the Free France Navy in St Pierre et Miquelon during World War II, the pennant No Q 52 as seen on the stamp did belong to the GALLANTRY, and the wrong ship is depict on the stamp. Three Fairmiles Motor Launches were transferred from the Canadian Navy in January 1942 to the Free French Navy, under which the Le COLOMBIER.

The Le COLOMBIER carried pendant No Q 063.
She was built by the Mac Craft Company Ltd., Sarnia, Ontario for the Canadian Navy.
12 February 1941 laid down.
26 November 1941 launched as the Q 063.
Displacement 79 tons. Dim 112 x 17.10 x 4.10ft.
Powered by two Hall Scott gasoline engines each 635 hp., speed 20 knots.
Armament 3 – 20mm.
Crew 3 officers, 14 men.
18 April 1942 commissioned.

January 1943 transferred to the Free French Navy, renamed COLOMBIER (V 113) and based in St Pierre on the islands of St Pierre et Miquelon, South of New Foundland.
25 July 1945 returned to the Canadian Navy, and put in reserve.
18 October 1945 sold to the Inter-American Associates in Montreal.
1947 Sold to General J.G. Escobar in Montreal.

Her fate not known.
