Built as a passenger ro-ro ferry under yard No 360 by the Uljanik yard at Pula, Croatia for the Russian state company MORFLOT. (Caspian Shipping Co.)
07 April 1984 first section placed.
October 1984 launched under the name SOVIETSKAYA GRUZIY, sometimes given as SOVIETSKAYA GRUZIYA.
Tonnage 11.450 gross, 2.902 dwt., dim. 154.55 x 18.30 x 13.45m, draught 4.2m.
Powered by two B&W diesel engines, 8.700 kW., speed 17.2 knots.
Accommodation for 202 passengers, berth for 84 passengers in cabins.
Can carry 70 cars of the Lada type.
20 April 1985 delivered to owners.

1992 Transferred by Caspian Shipping Co., U.S.S.R. to Mercuri Shipping Co. Ltd., Cyprus and renamed MERCURI I.
2010 In Service. Given by http://www.equasis.org as owned and managed by Azerbaijan State Caspian under Azerbaijan flag, IMO No. 8212568, call sign 4JJB. Name is spelt as MERCURY-I. The same name is given by owners on their web-site.
