CHAPERON paddle steamer

Built as a stern-wheeler in 1884 at Chambersburg, Ohio under the name J.C. KERR.
Dim. 121 x 27.8 x 4ft.
Two boilers each 36 x 18.8ft. supplied steam to two steam engines.

She operated first in the upper Ohio River until 1892.
1892 Sold to Captain R.H.Williams for the service Evansville – Green River.
He transferred her to the Evansville & Bowling Green Packet Co. in exchange for shares.
1897 Owned by Dick Williams, master, T.A. and W.M. Williams, pilots, J. Edgar and Jeff H. Williams, clerks and J.E. Williams, chief engineer.
1904 After rebuilding renamed in CHAPERON.
Then used in the service between Bowling Green to Mammouth Cave, under command of Capt. Jeff H. Williams.
Sometimes used in the service from Evansville to Bowling Green as replacement for other packets.
1917 Sold to Captain Gid Montjoy, Greenwood, Miss, and she was renamed in CHOCTAW.
He took her to Vicksburg and used her in the service up the Yazoo River and tributaries.

Burned on Melorse Landing, Mississippi, on the Tallahatchie River on 8 March 1922.
