Foxhound HMS

Post by john sefton » Sun Jul 18, 2010 9:35 pm

HMS FOXHOUND was built under the 1932 programme. She was a destroyer of the 'Fearless' class and was laid down in 1933. She was completed in 1935. She was involved together with HMS FAULKNOR and FIREDRAKE in the sinking of
a U-39 west of the Hebrides. During the Norwegian Campaign she took part in the second Battle of Narvik where she sunk the destroyer Diether Von Roeder and rescued survivors of the Swedish ship Orania. Following the Norwegian Campaign she escorted the Warspite from Scapa Flow to Gibraltar and later joined Force A in time to take part in the operation against the French fleet.
The beginning of 1941 saw HMS FOXHOUND bombing Genoa.
In April 1943 she transferred to the West African Command. One of the yards on the Humber carried out the necessary work to convert her into a long-range escort vessel for the Royal Canadian Navy. She was commissioned on 8th February 1944 as HMS Qu'Appelle and saw service with the 12th Escort Group for the invasion of Normandy.
Log Book November 1984.
