HMS Stork was laid down in 1934 and completed in 1936. She was a sloop built by Denny and Brother, Dumbarton, whose first assignment was as a survey vessel.
In 1939 she was rearmed and converted to an escort vessel. She then joined the Rosyth Command. She was detached to participate in the capture of Narvik and the subsequent evacuation from Northern Norway.
In 1941 she was transferred to the Western Approaches Command before joining the Irish Sea Escort Force later the same year. Towards the end of the year she formed part of the escort for Convoy HG76. The following year she was credited with the sinking of U.252 off Cape Finisterre.
The landings in North Africa saw her forming part of the Eastern Naval Task Force and while with it she took a torpedo. This necessitated her return to the UK for repairs.
In 1943 she sank U.634, again off Cape Finisterre.
After a period in the Mediterranean she returned to the United Kingdom in time to participate in Operation Neptune (Normandy Landings). A return to the Mediterranean followed after which she was refitted in Portsmouth. Her order to proceed to Eastern Waters were rescinded with the cessation of hostilities and she joined the Fishery Protection Flotilla.
In 1947 HMS Stork, together with all other vessels designed or adapted for trade defence duties were reclassified as frigates.
In November 1954 she was reduced to the Reserve at Portsmouth and was later transferred to Northern Ireland where she was scrapped in 1958.
