Built as a steel hulled passenger-cargo vessel under yard No 310 by Fairfield Shipbuilding & Eng. Co., Glasgow, Scotland for the Norddeutscher Lloyd at Bremen, Germany.
18 February 1886 launched (Miramar gives 01 December 1885), as the ALLER named after the River Aller.
Tonnage 4,964 grt. Dim.138.42 x 14.67m.
Powered by triple expansion steamengines, 8,000 hp, speed 17 knots.
Passenger accommodation 224 first, 90 second and 660 tweendeck passengers.
Four decks, twin funnels, four masts.
13 April 1886 completed.

The ALLER was one of 11 fast steamers built for the Norddeutscher Lloyd on British and German yards
.for the Nord Atlantic service, nine ships were built in Glasgow, and two by the Vulcan Werft in Stettin.
The ALLER was the first North Atlantic liner with a triple expansion engines and high pressure boilers. This combination reduced the coal consumption by 30%.

24 April 1886 maiden voyage under command of Capt. Hamelmann from Bremen to New York.
15 June 1887 in collision with the British fish-cutter WILLIE who was lost with the loss of six crew.
1891 Command taken over by Captain Christoffer.
1897 Rebuild, two masts removed and the funnels raised, her hull was then painted white. Tonnage increased to 5,217 grt. Speed increased to 18 knots.
Thereafter used in the service between Genoa, Italy and New York.
21 October 1897 sailed for the first time from Genoa.
27 January 1898 rescued the 23 crew of the British steamer DAGO in position 55 North and 44 West which was foundering after engine failure.

26 November 1902 sailed for her last voyage from Genoa and after her return on 12 December 1902 laid up.
1904 Scrapped in Genoa.
