The THORBORG was completed in 1772 at Stockholm as a wooden sailing-rowing frigate for the Swedish Royal Schärenflottan (archipelago fleet)
Three ships of the ‘udeman’ class were built the other two were the GAMLA and INGEBORG on yards in Stockholm and Stralsund after plans made by F.H. Af Chapman.
Tonnage 470 tons. Dim. 37.5 x 9.2 x 3.3m. draught 1.5m
Three mast, and 14 pair of oars (the designer of the stamp has much more oars on the vessel).
Armament 10 – 12pdr and 2 – 3 pdr guns.
Crew 126.
The Schärgårdsflottan was a unit of the Swedish Navy till 1756 thereafter separated and formed a new defence branch within the army, and the officers on these vessels carried the same ranks as in the army.
The ships were crewed with navy and army personnel.
The THORBORG after completing was a unit of the Finish squadron and based at Sveaborg fortress outside Helsinki.
She was one of the last rowed-sailing ships in Europe.
During the Swedish - Russia. War (1788-1790) took part in the Battle of Svensund, Finish south coast on 09 July 1790.
Fate unknown.
