ALMIRANTE BLANCO ENCALADA was laid down as ABRAHAM VAN DER HULST on 8 February 1989.
ABRAHAM VAN DER HULST named after the 17th century Dutch Admiral Abraham van der Hulst.
Launched on 7 September 1991. Commissioned into the Dutch Navy on
15 December 93. Decommissioned on 16 January 2005.

Displacement: 2,800 tons standard; 3,320 tons full load
Length: 401ft (122.3m) Beam: 47ft (14.4m) Draught: 20ft (6.1m)
Propulsion: 2 Rolls Royce (Spey 1A) 16700 hp (12.45 MW) gas turbines
2 Stork-Werkspoor 4895 hp (3.650 MW) diesel engines Speed: 29 knots (54 km/h)
Complement: 154
Armament: 1 Oto Melara 76 mm anti-air/anti-surface gun
1 Oerlikon 20 mm light cannon
1 Sea Sparrow Missile Vertical Launch System (VLS)

1 Goalkeeper (point defence guns)

Armour: none
Aircraft carried: AS 532 Cougar.
Aviation facilities: helicopter hangar.

Under Dutch flag she took part in 1998 in the evacuation of the Western citizen from Eritrea.
In total she brought 132 persons from the European Union, Canada the USA and New Zealand to Hodeida, Yemen.
Took part in the Operation Enduring Freedom gathering intelligence, and escorted other vessel in and around the Arabian Gulf.
05 July 2002 after Operation Freedom she returned in the Dutch navy base Den Helder.

2005 Sold to Chile and renamed.

2019 In service.
