ALMIRANTE LATORE (F14)

ALMIRANTE LATORE was laid down as HNLMS JACOB VAN HEEMSKERCK (F 812) on 21 January 1981
and launched on 5 November 1983. Commissioned into the Dutch Navy on 15 January
1986 and decommissioned: 2 December 2004.
She was named after the Dutch explorer and Admiral Jacob van Heemskerck (1567 – 1607)


HNLMS JACOB VAN HEEMSKERCK ran aground on the Isle of Scalpay, Scotland, on 15
September 1999 but was towed off by HNLMS De Ruyter (F 806); the ship completed
extensive repairs at Den Helder at the end of November 2000 and completed a
refit in January 2001.
During 2003 for five months was she the flagship for a NAVO squadron Standing Naval Force Mediterranean (STANAVFROMED).
During 2004 as flagship of the Standing Naval Force Atlantic (STANAVFORLANT)
02 December 2004 decommissioned.


Sold to Chile on 16 December 2005 as the ALMIRANTE LATORE (named after Juan José Latorre).
