JAHAZI: In use as a merchant ship at Tanzania and Kenya, built chiefly at Lamu and Zanzibar but also at towns along the Tanzanian mainland and at Pemba.
Vary in design from place to place but the stem is usually vertical and the stern a small shield-shaped transom.
Open except for a light palm decked at the stern.
Carried a quadrilateral lateen-type sail with a short luff.
Some now have an engine.
Crew of seven.
