On service between New York and South America. Rebuilt 1963. Sold to Holland-America Line in 1972, rebuilt and renamed VEENDAM. Laid up May 1974 at Hampton Roads. Chartered 1974 to America Maritime Intermares Ltd. Rio De Janiero used for cruising from Rio. Renamed BRAZIL. Charter ended 1975 renamed by HAL as VEENDAM. Sold 1976 to Monarch Cruise Line, Panama. Renamed MONARCH STAR. Then 15,632Grt. Sold to HAL in 1978 renamed VEENDAM. Sold 1981 to Holland America Cruises Inc. Curacao. Tonnage was 23,819Gt. Sold 1983 to Billinghurst Shipping Ltd. Panama and in 1986 renamed BERMUDA STAR. Then 14,209Gt. Sold 1990 to Argentina Caribbean Shipping Co. Panama. Not renamed.
After grounding on 10 June 1990 she was towed to New York Shipyard, Erie Basin by Morgan tugs and spent most of the Summer there being repaired. Returned to service 1 September as ENCHANTED ISLE her stack was repainted blue with the name 'Commodore' in raised yellow letters, reflecting the merger of Bermuda Star Line with Commodore Cruise Line in Aug 1990. As ENCHANTED ISLE was refited by Vancouver Dry Dock Co. Ltd. in May 1992. Scheduled to be renamed COMMODORE HOTEL for Baltic Lines, positioned as floating hotel on the Neva River at St Petersburg, Russia in June 1993 - Ajman 1967. 5dh. SG139. 10r. SG148. (A Palmhof.
