CAROLINA royal yacht 1701

She was designed by Marquis of Carmarthen as a small yacht or friggot at Chatham but on orders of the Admiralty in 1699 the frames were moved to Sheerness.
04 September 1700 named by the Admiralty in PEREGRINE GALLEY.
Built by the shipwright William Lee at the Sheerness Dry-dock.
10 June 1699 ordered.
21 September 1700 launched.
Tonnage 196 ton (bm), dim. 86.10 x 22.10 x 10.7ft, length of keel 72.8ft.
Armament: Upperdeck 16 – 3 pdrs. sakers, quarter deck 4 – 3 prs. And 12 - ½ pdr. swivels.
Crew 50.
February 1701 commissioned under command of Rear-Admiral the Marquis of Carmarthen, her designer and employed as yacht for VIP’s
Much used by the Duke of Marlborough when travelling to and from his European campaigns.
1702 Under command of Commander William Sanderson, brought in August 1714 George I from Holland to England.
29 May 1716 renamed in CAROLINA and converted to Royal Yacht. She was named after Caroline of Ansbach.
1716 Recommissioned under command of Capt. Galfridus Walpole in 1720.
From 1721 to 1729 under command of Capt. John Guy and in 1730 till 1732 under command of Captain Charles Hardy.
From May 1733 rebuilt in Deptford as a Royal yacht and renamed ROYAL CAROLINE.

1739 Reclassed as a 6th Rate.
1742 Under command of Captain Charles Molloy
Her last voyage was in November 1748 from Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands to Kingsgate with on board the British King George I.
1749 Refitted in Deptford in a three masted square rigged ship, classed as an armed sloop and renamed in PEREGRINE.
1762 Under command of Commander Edward Knowles foundered in the English Channel around 28 December1761 with the loss of all hands.
