On this stamp issued by France in 1979 is visible a stylized sailing vessel which can’t be identified only that she is a four masted full rigged type sailing vessels sailing off the port of Nantes with in the background the chateau des ducs de Bretagne (castle of the Dukes of Brittany.)
Nantes was once the headquarters of the Compagnie des Indes, and one of the most important ports in France at that time.
Two other stamps of Nantes show the coat of arms of the town, which depict a medieval ship.
