FANNIE No 17 pilot boat

Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Aug 10, 2014 9:11 pm

The FANNIE pilot boat No 17 was stationed in Sandy Hook pilot station which was founded in 1694, and piloting the ships entering New York.
Have not much on her, the stamp is designed after a painting made in 1896 which shows the FANNIE No 17.
Built from wood in Brooklyn, NY in 1860, tonnage 80 ton.
Topsail schooner rigged.
She was one of the last schooners built which was used as a pilot boat in New York.
The painting was made in 1896 most probably at that time she was still sailing, don’t have her fate.
More info welcome.
