MOSELLE CANAL INAUGURATION in 1964

Luxembourg issued in 1964 a 3fr. stamp for the inauguration of the Moselle Canal.
The Koblenz – Thionville section was opened to navigation on 1 June 1964.
The inauguration took place in the presence of the heads of state of France, Germany and Luxembourg, and mark the end of a seven year preparation and building period of 270 km. of inland waterway.
The stamp shows a lock in the Moselle Canal with an inland barge entering the lock. The barge is not identified.
