The North Korean stamp issued in 1987 shows us a merchantman from the Koryo Period 918-1392, by comparing of the stamp with photos on the net of ships type of Korean ships 918-1392 but the ship on the stamp look not very reliable, I could not find a match for the period 918-1392. Also, the spritsail on the stamp, on the bow is of a later date. I believe the spritsail is never used on Korean trading ships.
Most probably the ship on the stamp is not of that period
After the founding of the Goryeo Dynasty, Goryeo opened its doors and implemented an open foreign policy, such as allowing foreigners, including Song, Khitan, and Yeojin, to enter freely. After the war with the Khitans ended, foreign relations stabilized, and Goryeo engaged in active exchanges with the Song. Goryeo sent envoys, scholars, and monks to Song to actively embrace the developed culture and complete various systems. On the other hand, Song tried to contain foreign peoples around him by improving relations with Goryeo.
On the other hand, Goryeo encouraged foreign trade, so even Arabian merchants came to Goryeo to trade. Byeokrando at the mouth of the Yesung River prospered greatly as an international trading port at that time.
It was from this open foreign policy of the Goryeo Dynasty that Korea was first known to the Western world under the name of 'Korea'. The foreign policy of Goryeo was to pursue national interests through pragmatic foreign policy while appropriately utilizing moderate and hard-line policies in relations with various countries such as the Khitan and Song.
Byeokrando Port.
As a representative trading port of the Goryeo Dynasty, it was a place where merchants from China, Japan, Namyang, and the West came and went for trade.
