Gibraltar issued a set of 3 stamps depicting paintings of the artist Gustavo Bacarisas to honour him for his 150th birth anniversary.
One stamp the £1.15 shows Royal Navy warships in Gibraltar Bay, circa 1968.
On 7th January 1971 Gustavo Bacarisas (1872 – 1971) died in Seville at the age 98. Following his express wishes, his widow presented a large oil painting of “The Royal Navy Mediterranean and Atlantic Fleets in Gibraltar Harbour” painted circa 1968, to the people of Gibraltar on 18th December 1971. This painting is now displayed in the Mayor’s Parlour (Council Chamber) at the City Hall.
