TAPA CLOTH PAINTING - FRENCH POLYNESIA

Post by aukepalmhof » Thu Oct 26, 2023 7:20 pm

On 20 may 1988 Franch Polynesia issued three stamps featuring the work of the Swedish artist Paul Engdahl on tapa cloth.
Tapa is a cloth made out of the beaten bark of the breadfruit tree, or the banyan tree, or the paper mulberry tree and because of its texture, is considered to be very difficult to paint.
One of this stamps “the family on the river” shows a native outrigger.
