JUPITERS schooner 1929

In the sixties of the 19th century, Latvians already had experience in the construction of single-masted ships, with which agricultural goods and tar were transported to Riga,  Petersburg  and  Rēveli
Krišjānis Valdemārs agreed with the Russian government that trees for shipbuilding could be purchased from state forests at a lower price. The first Latvian sailing ship was built in 1857 in Mangalia .
On the Kurzeme coast, the sailing industry would have started to develop more rapidly around 1880. They were built in almost every village, but most were put into the water in Lielirbe . In 1882, the 67 registered ton coastal sailing ship GRIETA built there was launched in Miķeļtornī . In the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, a total of about 550 long-distance sailing ships were built in Kurzeme and Vidzeme . From 1900 to 1904, sailing ships were at their peak, after which they began to decline, as freight rates fell and it was difficult to compete with steamships .

Wikipedia.

Of the JUPITERS I could find noting except what is given by the Latvian Post. (I believe she was very small and built voor the builder for his own account.)
The newest stamp of the series of historical ships depicts the two-masted gaff schooner JUPITERRS  built in Vitrupė in 1929 and made by master builder J. Plūme.
It is a classic coastal Malka Jānis sailing ship, but it is special among two-masted gaff schooners with its heavy hull, large sails, lifting capacity and speed. The sailing ship was in operation from 1929 to 1935.
The ships made in the territory of Latvia are unique not only as a phenomenon of our coast, but also a world-wide pride. It should be noted that they were built by local masters who learned their trade from various professional shipbuilders as apprentices, not in high schools. Strong, manoeuvrable and safely managed with a small crew - our ships floated both in world and European waters, as well as on Latvian coastal cabotage trips.
