Croatia - Germany Joint Issue: The stamp shows on the top a stylized Danube river vessel.
The Republic of Croatia and the Federal Republic of Germany are traditionally linked by close and friendly relations, developed and dynamic cooperation in many areas. As partner countries within the European Union, we are united by a commitment to preserving democratic values and a secure European future.
The Danube river is a recognizable symbol of interconnectedness, reinforcing the awareness of the mutual economic, social and cultural links that point to even stronger synergies.
The Danube, as the cradle of economic progress in urban and rural areas, has inspired numerous works of art, encouraged joint action to protect the environment and preserved the water and biodiversity of the fourteen countries gathered within the framework of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region to promote economic, cultural and social development and to improve the quality of life for the approximately 115 million inhabitants of the region.
In the context of complementary Croatian-German cooperation within the Strategy, the joint coordination of two priority areas is particularly emphasized: “Enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises and the development of economic clusters” in collaboration with the German Federal State of Baden-Württemberg and “Preserving biodiversity, landscape, air and soil quality” with the Bavarian Government.
The multi-annual cooperation of the participating states of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region, within these two priority areas, has resulted in outstanding projects for the well-being of the population and the natural environment of the Danube region.

Croatia - Germany
Common river: Danube
From the Black Forest to the Black Sea, the Danube, with its total length of 2,860 kilometers, connects ten European countries and a wide variety of cultures. No other river in the world crosses more countries than the Danube.
As one of the oldest and most important European trade routes, the river is a European lifeline. For its riparian countries, the river was and remains a constant reflection of its time: the waterway has been blocked or obstructed time and again, including by political tensions. Since the fall of the Iron Curtain over 30 years ago, the Danube has regained its economic importance. It remains an important location for companies and hydroelectric power stations. And it is a driving force for tourism in many special sections, whether due to the attractiveness of the urban metropolises it crosses or the breathtaking natural panoramas.
The Danube is the epitome of diversity in many ways. Firstly, because of its different forms, which range from almost stagnant water to a raging river, and which includes the Danube Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before it flows into the Black Sea. The Danube region is home to hundreds of species of birds, fish, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. But it is not just the animal world that benefits from the river. Around 10 million people also live on and from the Danube.
"You too, Danube, do not lose your strength" says the third verse of the Croatian national anthem, just another aspect of the cultural impact alongside the popular "Danube Wave" or the "Danube Waltz". In view of the importance and power of the Danube for its surroundings, its use also plays a role in other respects: the flora and fauna of the Danube are threatened not least by human intervention. Germany and Croatia are part of several initiatives ( including EUSDR , Danube Commission) that promote the preservation of the species-rich river landscape as a sensitive habitat. And just as the Danube flows through Europe, its name changes along its course: from Danube to Dunaj and Duna to the Croatian Dunav.
Germany and Croatia: as diverse as the river that connects them.
