The pink was a type of merchant ship that was already used in the 15th century for freight shipping to England from France and the Netherlands. These were probably fishing vessels.
In the 18th century they were merchant ships that sailed mainly in North-West Europe.
They were built flatter than a frigate, but sharper than a bark. The pink had a narrow high stern with a small hakkebord (stern decoration), sometimes a galleon and usually a fairly blunt foreship without decoration. Due to the strongly recessed sides she had a narrow deck. Sometimes there were two continuous decks. In the 19th century the high stern disappeared and she could be difficult to distinguished her from a frigate. She carried a normal three-mast rig
