A pink was a fishing and trading vessel from the 15th to 19th centuries.
In the Baltic Sea and Atlantic Ocean, a pink (from the Dutch "pincke") was the name for any small vessel with a narrow stern.
In the Atlantic Ocean, the word "pink" was used to describe any small vessel with a narrow stern, coming from the Dutch word "pincke," meaning "pinched."
Their flat bottoms (and consequent shallow draft) made them more useful in shallow waters than some similar classes of vessel. They were most often used for short-term missions in protected channels, both as merchant ships and warships. A number served in the English navy in the second half of the 17th century.
Furthermore, they could maneuver on rivers and streams. Pinks were quite fast and maneuverable
