GENERAL JACKSON whaler

Where and when built unknown. Captured during the War of 1812, was after surrender sold as a prize ship at New York on 07 November 1816.
Her career thereafter is not known, till she appears in the book History of the American Whale Fishery by Alexander Starbuck.

She sailed under the name GENERAL JACKSON on 29 Sept. 1832 from Bristol R.I. under command of Capt. Smith for the whaling grounds of the Pacific. Her owner is given as William D de Wolf also from Bristol R.I.
Tonnage 329 ton, dim. 98.1 x 27.8 x 13.10ft.
Ship rigged.
The GENERAL JACKSON discovered on 14 Feb. 1835 the Fakaofo Atoll in position 09 26S 170 07W; he named the island after his owner D’Wolf Island (Fakaofo Atoll, Tokelau Islands.)
October 1835 he returned back in Bristol R.I. with on board 1.400 brls. sperm oil.

She sailed out again in 1836 under command of Capt. Stephen R Crocker for the whaling grounds in the Pacific; the captain was also part owner of the vessel. He visited the Fakaofo Atoll, the GENERAL JACKSON was back at Bristol R.I. on 1 December 1839, with on board 2.000 brls. sperm oil.

Her third voyage was under command of Capt. Ramsdell, sailed out on 23 Jan. 1842 for the whaling grounds of the Pacific, she returned on 24 October 1845 with on board 1.000 brls. sperm oil. Owner still given as de Wolf.

1847 Sold.
That was the last time she is given in Starbuck book.

The book The Seahunters by Stackpole gives, the documents were surrendered at Key West on 25 May 1847 after the GENERAL JACKSON was lost at sea by fire.
