The 20 kurus stamp depicts the Turkish mail steamer Iskendrun built at Genoa in 1950 by the Soc. Anon. Ansaldo. She has a gross tonnage of 6,570, is 415ft. 6in. in length, 56ft. 9in. in beam and has a depth of 23ft. Her speed is 21 knots.

Correct name is ISKENDERUN.
Built as a cargo-passenger ship under yard No 898 by S.A.Ansaldo at Genoa for Denizcilik Bankasi T.A.O, Turkey, managed by the Turkish Maritime Line, Istanbul.
1950 Launched under the name ISKENDERUN.
Tonnage 6.570 gross 3.624 net, 2.870 dwt., dim. 433 x 56.11 x 33.10ft., draught 18.9ft. Length between pp 397ft.
Powered by four DRG steamturbines geared to two shafts, speed 16.5 knots.
Passenger accommodation for 25 first, 71 second and 320 tourist class.
August 1950 completed.

Used in the service from Istanbul –Izmir- Marmaris-Lamassol to Beirut, the last port was later changed to Haifa.
In the final years of her career she was used in the domestic service between Istanbul and Izmir, mostly as a relief vessel.
1980 Laid up in the Golden Horn, there were plans from the Turkish Navy to refit her in a troopship, but these plans were not materialized
Oct. 1981 she arrived by the scrapyard of M.K.E. Makina at Aliaga for scrapping.
