Built as cargo-timber carrier under yard No. 90 by the Sedef Shipbuilding at Gebze, Turkey for Russian account, (most probably the Sakhalin Shipping Company SASCO.)
Launched under the name CHEKHOV.
Tonnage 3.972 gross, 1.617 net, 4.152dwt, dim. 97.82 x 17.3 x 7.01m.
Powered by a 6-cyl MAN B&W diesel, 3.401 kW. Speed 12.5 knots. Single screw. Fuel oil capacity 587 ton, ballast water 1.675 ton, fresh water 120 ton.
Bale capacity 5.242 cubic meter, grain 5.242 cubic meter. Loading and discharging gear, two cranes with a lifting capacity of 15 tons.
01 January 1993 delivered to owners.

1998 Sold by Chekhov Ltd., Malta to Sagamore Shipping Inc. Oyster Bay U.S.A. Renamed ASCENSION.
This large freighter is well know sight to residents of Ascension Island and is operated by the American company Sealift Inc., one of the largest ocean transportation contractors to the US Government.
A US supply ship calls on a average 6 times per year

2013 Sold to Sarana Bahtera Irja Pt., Indonesia and renamed SURYA PEKIK.

Cargo ship SURYA PEKIK (IMO 8912857) sank in the ship channel of the Kapuas River, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, during the late evening of February 9th. 2020. The ship was scheduled to be auctioned through the Office of State Assets and Auction Services (KPKLN, having been detained in a corruption case.

1993-built, Indonesia-flagged, 3,972 gt SURYA PEKIK is owned and managed by Sarana Bahtera Irja PT of Surabaya, Indonesia.
