Built as a passenger ship under yard 88 by Aitken & Mansel, Whiteinch, Scotland for the London & South Western Railway Co., Southampton.
30 November 1876 launched under the name DIANA.
Tonnage 738 gross, dim. 70.9 x 8.59 x 4.3m.
Powered by one 2-cyl. compound steam engine, manufactured by J & J Thompson, Glasgow.
She was the first cross-channel passenger vessel fitted out with a screw.
February 1877 completed.
After completing used in the service between Southampton to the Channel Islands and France.
She was lost on 21 June 1895 under command of Capt. Kemp on a voyage from Southampton to St Malo when she struck rocks off Cape de la Hague, passengers and crew rescued, but the mail was lost.
The wreck is in position approx. 49 43N 01 58W.
In the inquire after the loss, Capt Kempt lost his license to sail as Captain for 6 months.
