Post by shipstamps » Tue Dec 30, 2008 4:26 pm

The Interislander has three ships in service the ARAHURA, ARATERA and the KAITAKI, comparing the silhouette with photo’s of the three ships, the vessel in the background of the stamp looks the same as the ARAHURA, the other two have a different silhouette. The vessel on the foreground of which only the bow is depict I believe is an impression of a vessel, the bow is much to long for one of the vessels of the Interisland fleet.

She was completed in 1983 and not in 1883.

29 July 2015 she left Wellington for her last crossing to Picton, then she left New Zealand under the name AHURA and via a stopover in Fremantle, Australia she headed for Alang, India for demolition. She was sold for 225 USA Dollar a ton weight.
03 November 2015 she was beached at Alang.
She made some 52,000 crossing in the service between Wellington and Picton.
