She was built as a steel three masted cargo steamer under yard no 31 by Ramage & Ferguson at Leith, Scotland for the Ardan Steam Ship Co. Ltd., (Clark & Services managers) at Glasgow.
13 October 1881 launched under the name ARDANGORM.
Tonnage 1.612 gross, 1.042 net, dim. 260 x 35 x 17ft. (when built)
Compound steam engine and two single ended boilers, engine power 200 nhp. service speed 10 knots.
Engine and boilers manufactured and fitted in by Walker Henderson & Co., Ltd., Glasgow.
Registered at Glasgow. Official No. 85881.
The company was a tramping company, but some ships were operated on long-term charters. The ARDANGORM is show as working between Hamburg and Norfolk, Virginia. And with coal and phosphate home from Charlotte Harbour, Western Florida to Garston in 1899.
The company quit shipping in the end of 1950.
1899 March new boiler fitted in.
1902 New donkey boiler fitted.
1907 (A other ref. says 1904) sold to V. Huteau, Port Louis, Mauritius. renamed SECUNDER. (Miramar gives: sold 1901 to Hadji S. Seedick & Co., renamed SECUNDER.)
1917 Sold to The Colonial Government of Mauritius, Port Louis, Mauritius.
Between 1907 and 1932 she carried the mail between Mauritius and Rodriguez.
1932 Broken up, most probably in South Africa. (Miramar gives broken up 4 quarter 1928.)
