Two destroyers, the Regele Ferdinand 1 and the Regina Maria, are depicted on a 20 lei stamp of Romania issued in 1931. The former was launched at the Pattison yard, Naples, in 1928 and was completed in 1930, the latter was launched at the same yard in 1929 and was completed in 1930. Both ships were alike and were built to Thornycroft's design. Particulars were: Length 335ft., tonnage 1,785, speed 38 knots. and armament five 4.7in. and three 2pdr. anti-aircraft guns and four torpedo tubes. Whether the Regina Maria is still in service I am unable to say, but the Regele Ferdinand I is reported to have been sunk by the Russians in the Black Sea in December 1941.
