Built as a cruise vessel under yard No 6079 by Fincantieri-Cantieri Nav. Italiani S.p.A., Porto Marghera near Venice, Italy for the Carnival Corporation.
The intention was to build her for the Cunard Line, before Carnival the parent company of both companies transferred her to P&O Cruises before completing.
12 July 2003 Ordered.
Tonnage 86.799 grt, 7.200 dwt., dim. 289.90 x 32.20 x 7.80m. (draught)
Powered: diesel-electric by five Wärtsilä diesel engines, 51.840 kW., speed 22.0.
Accommodation for 1.968 passengers. Crew 869.
26 May 2004 floated out, at that time she carried already the name ARCADIA on her bow.
2005 Completed. Building cost £200.

She is based at Southampton, with homeport London.
Before her naming did she make a short cruise to the Channel Islands, sailed on 07 April from Southampton and returned the 9th
After arrival in Southampton she was on 12 April 2005 named by Dame Kelly Holmes a double Athens 2004 Olympic gold medallist as ARCADIA.
She is designed that she still can pass the Panama Canal, and can be used in the Atlantic and Pacific regions.
